The Outsider
Production Role - Actor - Arthur Vance
Paul Slade Smith's The Outsider was an absolute blast to perform in! The show is an incredibly hilarious look into the world of politics, through a satirical, almost sitcom-like, lens of humorous storytelling. Bringing the role of Arthur Vance to life was absolutely thrilling, and it was incredibly fun to put the pure charisma that he oozes to the stage. Arthur was an interesting endeavor and challenge because in many ways he serves as the catalyst for the play's conflict. He is the one who drives wedges between characters, and incites much of the chaos that ensues throughout the play, but it is not because he is a villainous man. In many ways he embodies the traits and characteristics of the typical sleazy politician caricature, but he differs in the fact of how genuine he truly is. He radiates excitement and joy for everything he does, and all of the conflict that he causes is not from mal intent, but rather just the sheer overbearing power of his personality. This was a joy to create on stage through bold physical presence, powerful vocals, and all of the charm I could muster. Arthur was a blast to be, and a joy to get the audience to love him just as he loves himself.
